Designed for riding in low light, this 100% reflective Volta vest will have you lighting up the darkness. Made in Europe and using Swiss-made innovative fabric, Volta is the only company in New Zealand making reflective gear as powerful as this. How does it work? When light falls on this Volta garment millions of miniscule glass spheres in the fabric reflect the light directly back along the same path as the oncoming beam, to ensure you are seen and identified by any drivers. Talk of eating low carb high fat (LCHF) for enhanced performance is on the up, as is opting to go gluten free.

The jury is still out on whether LCHF is good for athletic performance, but some research is finding that eating LCHF results in weight loss, increased and better-sustained energy levels and improved sleep.

This happens when eating LCHF, as it is thought make your body become ‘fat adapted’ which means the body begins using fat as its main energy source after carbs are restricted.

Choosing to eat LCHF can pose questions about which foods to eat and which to avoid. Sandwiches are off limits but if the thought depresses you; don’t worry as Gerry’s Wraps does a Go Low Carb wrap that is tasty and satisfying.

Rated New Zealand’s lowest-carb wrap, Gerry’s Go Low Carb wrap can be used in numerous ways to replace carbs including bread, pizza bases and pasta to make meals instantly low carb.

Going gluten free is another option considered by many athletes aiming to lose weight and avoid tummy troubles (otherwise known as gut rot) or other training-induced inflammation - a problem prevalent in endurance athletes.

But going gluten free doesn’t mean missing out as Gerry’s Wraps does a delicious Go No Gluten wrap. Heated, these wraps transform into just about any tasty snack or meal ranging from a sandwich replacement to a taco-based meal, tortilla chips, soft enchiladas or crispy cases filled with any delicious mixture.

Made from GMO-free corn, Gerry’s Go No Gluten wraps are super delicious, warm or cold.

Once opened, a pack of Gerry’s Go No Gluten wraps keeps in a snap lock bag for up to three months in your pantry, which means they’re always on hand for instant refueling.

Christchurch-based Gerry’s Wraps is giving away ten free packs each of Gerry’s Go Low Carb wraps and Gerry’s Go No Gluten wraps – be in quick by jumping onto and tell us who is NZ’s lowest carb wrap before 26th October. Recipes and more information at

Win a brand spanking new Hăhă Reserve Pinot Noir 2013 twin pack

Win a brand spanking new Hãhã Reserve Pinot Noir 2013 twin pack.

The 2013 vintage was so fantastic it provided the opportunity to produce the first Hãhã reserve.
Picked from specially selected areas on the same idyllic Awatere and Upper Wairau vineyards as our Hãhã Marlborough Pinot Noir and hand harvested with care. The grapes were cold soaked for 3 days, hand pressed, 100% oak aged for 8 months with a total maturation of 11 months, we then let the wine settle in the bottle for a further 3-4 months. So we think there’s good reason to be pretty excited about this wine!

Hãhã brings a smile to your dial, and with the Maori translation of savoury and luscious we reckon it hits the spot with this Pinot – it’s a full bodied, lavishly fruited wine with an elegance beyond its pay grade.

6 twin packs up for grabs - you must be over 18 years old.
To win - Email your local bar, restaurant or bottle store you would like to see Hãhã wine at?

Cyckit - Integrated Storage for your bike

There have been many considerations to designing the Aeroclam and these were previously addressed while validating the market and interviewing 125 road cyclists with their issues on the canvas saddlebags.
Water tight and awkward access were complaints that rated highly so we designed the clam concept, eliminated the zipper replacing with a tough UV resistant rubber latch that covered + protected the clam part line giving quick easy content access.
The rubber latch is also replaceable should it ever fail unlike the zipper, so in effect the Aeroclam should last decades.

When testing, I personally slid the latch over the buttons 500 times. [250 punchers] and the latch held its composition perfectly. To test the UV claim of the rubber and plastic compound, in September last year I mounted a clam outside in the north facing sun. It's still there and operates perfectly.
Movement leading to bodily contact was a complaint that rated highly as it's annoying and noisy and the securing velcro straps that caused this scuffed paint in the process so we solid mounted the clam.
High impact plastic was the obvious material of choice as it's light, can be moulded to any shape [at huge expense], very tough, waterproof as it won't stay sodded and wet, won't rot or degrade and easily cleaned inside and out.

We initially manufactured just one Aeroclam but added another interchangeable top section to cover the many saddle contours on the market. We refer to these two models as [Project One and Two] P1 and P2.
The Aeroclam will fit the majority of road bike saddles on the market but we're still finding out exactly what it does and doesn't fit giving away free product to cyclists at the Taupo Challenge with saddle brands we hadn't yet fitted.

We have comprehensive imagery and info on the website as to what the Aeroclam fits and how to fit. Last but certainly not least is Style! We worked hard on this much needed aspect making the Aeroclam compact and integrated to the saddle and ultimately the cycle.
The Aeroclam comes in black & while options but also with white top & black bottom, black top white bottom options. The Aeroclam has a two year warranty.

The team at Cyckit are giving one Aeroclam P1 and an Aeroclam P2.

Win a small Nature Valley team jersey signed by Paddy Bevin

After a stellar year, the Nature Valley Rolling Revolution cycling team enters a new phase for 2015.

Easily recognisable in their distinctive Nature Valley team kit and usually off the front of the bunch the team assembled and run by rider and team captain, Brad Tilby has had a very useful year with a team of incredible talent and they have delivered with several top results spread across the riders.

The team’s objectives are clear - ride as a motivated team to win races for the team and to bring through some selected talent into the tops ranks of New Zealand racing and prepare the team members for bigger and better things on the world stage. So having Paddy Bevin move on to the National Racing Series (NRS) team, Avanti Racing Team is part of the team purpose, although ironic the team will now be plotting against him.

With a pretty consistent line up from 2014, the team are looking to consolidate the great results but more importantly continue to develop their team racing spirit. “the cliché of a team being better than the sum of the parts in particularly true for The Rolling Revolution” says Tilby “the riders have a role to play, but are equally happy to support the best rider on the day and this approach is our key advantage in the chess game that is teams road cycling”.

He continues ‘the team would like to say thank you to the team supporters both the sponsors and the people who participate and follow cycling, our coverage on social media and at races is fantastic and makes the significant effort with riding and organising all worth it”.

For more information or to follow Nature Valley - Rolling Revolution please like them in Facebook, Instagram and Twitter or on the official blog -

And further to the team’s success – you can win too!

Win The Program DVD

The true story of the meteoric rise and fall of one of the most celebrated and controversial men in recent history; Lance Armstrong, the world-renowned Tour de France champion. The world needs heroes and Lance Armstrong was the ultimate sporting hero.

Following a gruelling battle with cancer, Lance returned to his cycling career in 1999 more determined than ever and with his sights set firmly on winning the Tour de France. With the help of the infamous Italian physician Michele Ferrari and team director Johan Bruyneel, he developed the most sophisticated doping program in the history of the sport. This program allowed Lance and his American teammates to dominate the world of cycling, winning the Tour an unprecedented seven times.

However not everyone believed the fairytale...Sunday Times journalist, David Walsh, at first charmed by Lance's charisma and talent, soon began to question whether the 'world's greatest athlete' was 'clean'. Walsh sought to unveil the truth, his ensuing battle with Armstrong risked his own career, ostracised him from the cycling community and cost his paper, The Sunday Times, hundreds of thousands in legal costs. But the indefatigable Walsh eventually uncovered the truth when a select few prepared to talk came forward, exposing one of the greatest deceptions of our time. Inspired by the award winning book 'Seven Deadly Sins' by David Walsh, and featuring a stellar cast

The Active Post 100k Flyer

The Active Post 100k Flyer cycle race will be held on the 5th of April 2014 in its original direction, from Rotorua to Taupo. The 14th anniversary of the event will see cyclists of all abilities ride from one tourist mecca to another, along scenic country roads including the famous Ironman course.

An exciting addition to the 2014 event will be the Elite Race start with a $2000 prize pool up for grabs. Former Commonwealth games Bronze Medallist, Gordon McCauley has confirmed he will be on the start line along with the newly formed GMC Development Squad, sponsored by event partner Avantiplus. The event has attracted a number of top riders over the years including recent Tour of Southland winner James Oram and his former Pure Black Racing team mates Fraser Gough and Dion Smith. The 2013 event was won by Nature Valley rider Sam Lindsay of Auckland, who placed third at the 2013 Tour of Southland.

Event Promotions Marketing Manager Charlotte Pearson hopes that the support of McCauley and new prize pool will act as a draw card for a quality field of riders. “It would be great to have New Zealand’s top riders include the event in their race calendar each year” The first three elite men and women across the line will win $500, $250 and $100 respectively. “We will be trialling this idea for year one, and look at increasing the prize pool for year two if it works.”

The event will alternate directions each year. The 2013 event was the first time it was rode in reverse, from Taupo to Rotorua. “Alternating the courses each year will give the event that extra edge. The different directions will suit different riders, so it will always be exciting to see who will take out line honours” says Pearson. A green sprint jersey and $150 will be up for grabs for the sprint winner on the Rotorua to Taupo course. The Taupo to Rotorua course will suit climbers therefore riders will contend for the KOM Jersey on alternate years.

The 100k Flyer event was started in 2000 and attracted just under 1000 riders. The event has grown over the years and organisers hope to attract 2000 riders in 2014. Entries are now open, go to to enter.
The good folk at Event Promotions would also like to giveaway two individual race entries including shuttle and tickets to the Pasta Party (Guest speaker – Gordon McCauley)! Simply tell us where the 2014 Active Post 100k Flyer will be finishing?

Win! Road 2014: The Art of Cycling

When mountain bike photographer Derek Morrison first started selling his premium art mountain biking calendars back in 2011, he constantly fielded demands from road cyclists for their own version.

Finally, for 2014 he has answered the call, producing Road 2014: The Art of Cycling. This new title continues in the tradition of Adventure Media Group’s premium mountain bike and adventure calendars – featuring some of this country’s most promising riders in locations we all want to get to. It is as inspiring as it is stunning. Each month features a rider on a section of road that you could only ever dream of and lists the main road cycling events staged throughout the country.

“When I first started to shoot the images for Road 2014: The Art of Cycling I did not realize just how picturesque our roads were. After shooting a bunch of them it dawned on me why road cycling in New Zealand was so popular,” explained Derek.

The Adventure Media Group series of calendars has always featured athletes and this is a core part of Derek’s philosophy.

“Our calendars are popular with both core and mainstream audiences so we like to promote the athletes of this sport. The more we grow the profile of local athletes the bigger the industry becomes. That’s better for everyone from local bike shops to clubs and ultimately the athletes themselves.”

Derek said the feedback from bike shops had been really exciting.

“We’re pitching a premium photography wall calendar that inspires people to ride and ride more often. That’s got to be a good thing for everyone,” he smiles.

Got a section of road or rider you think should feature in the 2015 edition? Jump on to and let the team know.

Road 2014: The Art of Cycling is available from Whitcoulls, core cycling retailers, selected book stores and online at for just $29.99 (inc GST).

We have 10 copies to giveaway just tell us in 30 words or less who you think should be the Road 2015: The Art of Cycling cover star and why.

Milford Ride On The Up

The Distinction Hotels Milford Mountain Classic is set to be bigger and better for 2014, with the addition of the new Ricoh Homer Hundred set to be a popular one with participants.
The new 101km route will, like the 120km and 65km distance options, traverse some of the world’s most spectacular scenery when the event is held on Saturday January 25.
While the full 120km event includes a gruelling climb from Milford to the Homer Tunnel, those competing in the Homer Hundred will bypass that; instead starting on the eastern side of the Homer Tunnel and riding into Te Anau.

Te Anau Community Events Charitable Trust spokesman Don McFarlane said the event, now heading into its third year, was developing into a truly iconic one.
“The event has something for every ability – a challenging ride for the more competitive cyclists, outstanding scenery for those who prefer to take it a little easier and three distance options that will each appeal to different levels,” he said.
“We think we’ve got the mix just right and, with the addition of the Homer Hundred there’s a real progression there for riders to continue to challenge themselves year on year. Past participants have been nothing but positive about the event and we’re excited about growing the event even further for 2014.”

The Distinction Hotels Milford Mountain Classic now includes the 120km Milford Classic (120km from Milford to Te Anau), which is open to two-person teams or individuals, the 101km Ricoh Homer Hundred, open to individuals only, and the 65km Meridian Eglinton Challenge, also open to two-person teams or individuals. Entries are open online at

New Zealand Road Cyclist has two entries to the Distinction Hotels Milford Mountain Classic to give away – one in the Distinction Hotels 120km event from Milford to Te Anau, the other in the new Ricoh Homer Hundred event. Testing's No Sweat

Precision Hydration New Zealand Sodium Sweat Testing,

‘To salt or not to salt? ‘is a question more often heard in the kitchen or in health debates. For athletes however, sodium is an electrolyte that is critical for the functioning of muscles and nerves, and therefore can affect their ability in both training and racing. Sodium sweat losses during exercise can account for more than a 1500mg of sodium lost each hour, (this is 75% of your Ministry of Health recommended intake of sodium for an entire day!). This level of loss over consecutive days quickly leads to sodium depletion in your body. Sodium lost through sweat varies from person to person, and this variation makes it difficult to find standard ‘off the shelf’ hydration products that can satisfy an athlete’s individual requirements. A UK based company has taken technology, originally designed in the diagnosis of people with cystic fibrosis, and applied it to help discover the sodium requirements of athletes. Precision Hydration New Zealand has now brought this technology to New Zealand so Kiwi athletes can start taking advantage of accurate rehydration.

Rehydration is a continuing problem for all athletes. Consuming too many electrolytes leads to bloating as the stomach absorbs water to dilute excess solutes. Inadequate electrolytes, especially over long events such as ironman, may lead to hyponatremia which will have serious impacts on your health. That’s where Precision Hydration comes in to take the guess work out of your hydration strategies.
Using our unique technology, the ‘Sweat Inducer’, we collect and analyze a sample of your sweat without you having to lift a finger. In fact no exercise is required at all. The only thing required from you is the skin on your forearm from where the sample is collected. Once sweating is induced we fit a Macroduct Collector to your arm, collect a sample and analyze. The simple, pain free process is generally completed in less than an hour.
This is a one-off test, the concentration of sodium in your sweat is genetically determined and therefore changes little in a wide range of conditions and fitness levels. So no matter if your racing in the lava fields in Kona or cross country skiing in the mountains, the sodium concentration in your sweat will remain relatively stable. This test gives you a clear understanding of the composition of your sweat and we will teach you the best ways to use this information to effectively rehydrate yourself.
Our testing office is located just off the Upper Harbour Drive off ramp on the North Shore of Auckland. Most of our testing is held here but if you have a small group of athletes that would like to be tested (i.e. clubs and sports teams) our equipment is completely portable so we can come to you.

If you would like more details on our services either check out our website at or if you would prefer call Adam on 021 222 6632.

To be in to win one sweat test, valued at $195, with three months' supply of H2ProHydrate tablets - in appropirate strength to suit winner. Enter Now!

Solo Channels Retro Cool

Solo Cycle Clothing have been creating their unique ‘retro style’ garments since 2005. Solo owner Paul Mason says; “Solo cycle clothing was born from my dissatisfaction with the style of contemporary cycle clothing. While I had a deep respect for modern pro-cyclists, I didn’t particularly admire the ‘moving billboard’ look of modern team kit. What I did love was the clothing worn by the pro-riders of the 1950's - 1970's. These were simple and powerful designs which demonstrated that less is more. Since day one our mission remains the same: to produce the most beautiful cycle clothing in the world.”

Solo has established a strong international following with sales to cyclists in over 50 countries. 2013 also saw an expansion of the range with the release of the ‘Retro-tech’ collection, which as the name implies consists of technical race-fit cyclewear with a retro style twist. Solo clothing is available at selected cycle shops and online at
